Statement of Purpose: Ever since I was little, I was always the shy girl who hated to speak up and struggled to assert myself. I feared being wrong and judged by others, so I tended to sit back and let other people make decisions for me. I think the toughest part about being a leader is having the ability to take charge in a way that allows others to respect and listen to you. One of my biggest insecurities is that when I speak, people will not take me seriously, not respect what I am saying and just brush my ideas to the side. The main thing I want to get out of my experience in the Public Leadership Scholars program is to learn how to overcome my fears and insecurities. I want to learn how to become the leader I know I can be if fear was not holding me back. One day, I want to look back at my experience in public leadership and my college experience as a whole and be proud of my growth over the four years. Hopefully, that growth includes learning how to speak up and share my ideas with others without caring what anyone thinks. I cannot wait for the day when I have overcome my fears and allow myself to become the excellent leader I know I am capable of.
